The Church receives no money from government or the Diocese and is entirely dependant on the generosity of parishioners to function, and we are truly grateful to those who do give - often sacrificially
Our major expenditure is “Diocesan Share” which is paid to the Diocese annually. This covers costs such as payment of clergy, training and central support infrastructure. We also have to heat, light, insure and maintain our 6 ancient and beautiful buildings.
When repairs are needed, they tend to be comparatively expensive because each of the churches is a listed building and therefore has to comply with statutory requirements which usually means specialised (and therefore expensive) materials.
Currently we manage to balance our books, but each year the exercise becomes a little more difficult.
How Can you Help ?
1. Donations are always welcome
2. Regular giving is most helpful because this enables us to plan our finances more easily. Giving can be by weekly envelopes (please speak to the Priest-in-Charge or the Treasurer), or by Direct Debit / Standing Order
3 Remember the church with a legacy in your will. In this case, do please consider leaving a percentage of your estate to the church rather than a fixed sum. (£1,000 may be a generous sum today, but it’s value will be very much less in 10, 15 or 20 years - whereas a percentage will increase as the value of your estate grows)
4 If your village has a “Friends” Organisation - support it. The Friends raise money for “their” village church which has the double benefit of establishing a “pot” to assist with repairs and improvements, and also reducing the burden on central finances.
Whilst the amount that each person can give will vary according to their circumstances, we need to remember that our giving is a response to the generous love of God, who loved the world so much that he gave his only Son to die for us.
Consider as a basis for your giving, the cost of a newspaper and cup of coffee per day
(This equates to about £1-50 per day)
However you choose to give, if you pay tax, make sure your donation is Giftaided
This requires a a signed and dated declaration giving your full name and address and the words “I am a UK taxpayer intending tax the reclaimed on all donations made under the Gift Aid scheme”
